Friday Fives: Flash Mobs That Will Preach

For some reason, I like the concept of the flash mob. Although the name is a little iffy, most of the flash mob videos I’ve seen represent a cool marriage of creativity, unity and teamwork. I’ve never seen one live but I’d love to someday.

So in that spirit, Friday Fives today features five flash mob videos that just might preach.

#5 – Hezekiah Walker/Every Praise

This one’s at number five because it isn’t really a flash mob based on the strictest definition of that term. It’s a music video – done flash mob style. Still gets me going.

#4 – Banco Sabadell

The flash mob at number 4 is here because it is, quite literally, the classiest of all the flash mobs. It was assembled by Banco Sabadell (headquartered in Sabadell, Spain) for the occasion of the bank’s 130th anniversary and involves 100 musicians from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Lieder, Amics de l’Òpera and Coral Belles Arts choirs.

#3 – Antwerp Do Re Mi

The flash mob at number three just makes me smile. It occurred in the Central Transit Station at Antwerp Belgium and was done to “Do Re Mi” from The Sound of Music. It was organized as a commercial for VTM, the Flemish Television Company. Apparently commercial producers gathered 200 people, did two rehearsals and then went with it. Amazing.

#2 – Christmas Food Court Hallelujah Chorus

The flash mob at number two is the most viewed flash mob in YouTube history with well over 43 million views as of this writing. (43 million.)  It was held in the food court at the Seaway Mall near Niagara Falls and set up by Alphabet Photography as a Christmas greeting to thank their customers.

#1 – Ranken Jordan Hospital and Desi Lulef

Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital is a therapy hospital in Maryland Heights, Missouri. Seventeen year-old Desi Lulef is a cerebral palsy patient there. When the Ranken Jordan nurses found out Desi loves the Maroon 5 song “Moves Like Jagger” and watching dancing, they planned a surprise flash mob. Desi obviously loved it. That’s what joy looks like.
