Friday Fives. The Top Five Christian Songs from 10 Years Ago

Remember the summer of 2005? Seems like yesterday but it’s already 10 years ago.

Ah, we were all so much younger.

If you were listening to Christian radio during the summer of 2005, these were the songs you were hearing most often – the top five Christian songs that summer.

#5 Big Daddy Weave & Barlow Girl/You're Worthy of My Praise

Hard to believe that Big Daddy Weave has been recording together now for 15 years, having first met at the University of Mobile in the late nineties. Ten years ago they were on their third album for Fervent Records, which generated the song that was fifth on the Christian chart during the summer of ’05.

#4 Joy Williams/Hide

The singer won multiple Grammy Awards as part of The Civil Wars, the duo she formed with John Paul White, which broke up in August 2014. She joined with Chris Cornell on the song “Misery Chain” for the 12 Years A Slave soundtrack. And, during the summer of 2005, she had her biggest hit as a soloist with “Hide.”

#3 Chris Tomlin/Holy Is The Lord

“Holy Is the Lord,” from the number 1 album, Arriving, won the “Worship Song of the Year” award at the 2007 Dove Awards. Tomlin co-wrote the song with his pastor, Louis Giglio, Head of Passion City Church in Atlanta and founder of the Passion Movement. In the summer of 2005, it was the third biggest Christian song.

#2 Bebo Norman/Nothing Without You

Jeffrey Stephen Norman wasn’t always called Bebo. He recalls, “I’ve been Bebo since I was 4 years old. My little sister couldn’t say ‘big brother’. She started calling me Bebo, and so it stuck. I’m from Georgia. Things like that stick in Georgia.” One of his biggest hits, “Nothing Without You,” was the second biggest Christian song during the summer of ’05.

#1 Jeremy Camp/Take You Back

2005 was a big year for Jeremy Camp, who is not Contemporary Christian veteran Steve Camp’s son, as some claim. (His father Tom is a pastor in Indiana.)  He was voted the Best Male Artist for the 2005 Reader’s Choice Music Awards in Christianity Today as well as the ASCAP 2005 Songwriter of the Year and the Dove Award winner for the Male Vocalist of the Year for the second consecutive year. It was also during that summer that “Take You Back” was the biggest Christian song in America.
